The Day of Belarusian Solidarity is traditionally marked on May 16 in Belarus. Over a few years actions with a call to the regime to release prisoners of conscience and stop repressions against opposition are held in our country and abroad.
People will light candles of solidarity in their homes and gather on squares to remember the abducted and repressed, and to call upon the regime to choose the path of reforms.
Street rallies of solidarity, conferences, exhibitions, film presentations dedicated to Belarus are to take place on May 16 in many countries of the world (in Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania, Russia, France, Germany, Belgium, the Chech Republic, the US).
Today a former presidential candidate Alyaksandr Kazulin, a young activist Andrei Kim and a leader of market vendors Syarhei Parsyukevich remain in prisons of Belarus.
Because of the refusal of the authorities to release all political prisoners the US imposed sanctions against enterprises of Belneftekhim concern. The EU extended ban on entering the EU states for Belarusian officials responsible for human rights violations in Belarus. The call to release all political prisoners is also contained in the recently adopted resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
