Law on Mass Media to be considered on June 17

The draft law “On Mass Media” does not contain any fundamental changes in this sphere and it will be considered by the “deputies” of the “chamber of representatives” on June 17.

It has been stated by the chairman of the Commission on Human Rights, national Relations and Mass Media Yury Kulakouski, Radio Svaboda informs with a reference to Interfax.

He has confirmed that the draft law says nothing about the Internet. “Only a reference is included saying that this sphere is regulated by the current legislation”.

As we have informed, a few days ago the first deputy Minister of Information Liliya Ananich noted that a problem of “misinformation streams” of foreign websites exists. Their aim is to “influence the situation in Belarus destructively”.

“However, there is experience of China, where access to these websites at their territory was blocked,” L. Ananich said during a round table discussion. The materials of the discussion are published by the magazine “Belaruskaya Dumka”.
