Lukashenka: Entertainment is not interesting. Ideology is important

30

The Belarusian ruler criticized official mass media.

Interfax news agency learnt this from a statement Lukashenka’s press service following the results of a conference dedicated to the solution of the most pressing problems of social and economic development of Belarus in 2010.

“The head of state finds ideological activity in the country insufficient. He turns special attention of head of the President’s Administration Uladzimir Makei to this fact,” the press service noted. “President harshly criticized state-run mass media, both printed and electronic media,” the press service emphasized.

“The mass media in Belarus work badly. There is nothing to watch on Belarusian TV, neither it is abroad. Nobody listens to radio in Belarus. People watch only video clips on TV. It is only entertainment, it is not interesting. I have an impression that the directors of these media have forgotten that they are agents of the ideological work,” the press service quotes Lukashenka.

According to Lukashenka’s press room, the head of state ordered to pay close attention to activity of the mass media in the regions. “He noted that the regional media should not praise the local authorities. If there are facts that should be criticized, the media should not conceal them, however hard-hitting they are for the local authorities,” the press service informs.
