Belarus among the most dangerous countries for journalists

6

The world journalist community made up a list of the most dangerous countries to practice journalism.

As George Brock, president of the World Editors Forum, said at the 58th World Newspaper Congress in Seoul, in 2004, 500 journalists had been imprisoned in different countries of the world. According to participants of the round table, freedom of speech is in danger in most regions of the world – 38 journalists were killed in November 2004–May 2005, “Moskovsky Komsomolets” newspaper reports.

Mr Brock named Cuba, a number of Central and South America countries, Iraq, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Turkmenistan, Philippines, Nepal, China, and Russia among the countries, where the situation with freedom of speech is most disappointing.

It should be reminded that the 58th World Newspaper Congress and the 12th World Editors Forum, held at the same time, have gathered about 1500 delegates from 82 countries, Interfax reports.
