Maciej and Mikalaj Radziwill know realities of the totalitarian society very well.
Representatives of a prominent noble family, Macej and Mikalaj Radziwill, have come to Minsk to take part in presentation of an album “Radziwills. Album of portraits of 18-19 centuries”. in “Europe” hotel outside this event they met with a presidential candidate Andrei Sannikov.
“We had a very interesting conversation about the role the Radziwill family played in the history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Belarus; about restoration of Nyasvizh castle, and what Radziwills do in order to restore the memory about their famous ancestors. They really want a real museum to start its work on the territory of Nyasvizh museum, and they are really ready to do a lot for that. I recalled that being a fourth-year student of the Foreign Languages institute, we had a course “History of the Communist Party”, with an effort I pushed for choosing “History of Radziwill bondservants theatre in Nyasvizh” as a topic for my paper, and worked on this topic in archives with great pleasure.
Both Maciej and Mikalaj Radziwill know day-to-day realities of a totalitarian society very well, as they had lived the greater part of their life in a communist Poland. By the way, Maciej Radziwill told that in 1986 he was arrested for he was involved in anti-Communist samizdat. Now Maciej is running a serious business, and he is not only interested in cultural ties with Belarus, but in developing business ties with our country. It is hard to do at the moment certainly. I think that the growing interest of the Radziwills to Belarus demonstrates that the country is on the threshold of changes,” Andrei Sannikov said after the meeting.
