Correspondent students to be drafted in Belarus

The “house of representatives” adopted amendments to the law on military service in the second reading.

The draft law cancels educational exemptions for correspondent students, BelaPAN reports.

The adopted draft law also establishes a new order of preservice, physical and military training of the minors and specifies grounds for resignation of enlistment.

Another amendment is that a military conscript is freed from paying for a home loan for a period of service.

“A very painful problem of delaying home loan payments for military conscripts for a period of service was settled in the amending process on an initiative on the commission,” said Ihnatsi Misurahin, the deputy head of the commission on national security of the “house of representatives”.

“A proposal to cancel educational exemption for correspondent students is connected with the annual reduction of draftees to provide defense and military security of the state,” BelTA learnt from the Standing Commission on National Security of the “house of representatives”. The gender and age analysis of Belarus’s population shows a significant decline in the number of men subject to the first military registration and as a result a reduction of draftees, the Commission notes.
