Will the Belarusian nuclear power plant be built by France or China?

If Russia will not be constructing the nuclear power plant in Belarus, the authorities are going to negotiate with other investors.

In the short run Belarus is to determine an investor on constructing of the nuclear power plant, declared Alyaksandr Lukashenka, answering to journalists’ questions during his trip to Minsk region, BelTA reports.

He admitted that there is an arrangement problem on the construction of the nuclear power plant with the Russian part, the signing of the Belarusian-Russian agreement was suspended for the umpteenth time.

“We do not disregard other investors. In the short run we will determine, who will be constructing the nuclear power plant here”, — Lukashenka said. He also added that Belarus had proposals on this issue.

The ruler noted that Belarusian part had contacted many investors, but it took a decision in favour of Russia: “We acted on the premise of what they had promised. They persistently demanded from us, that they were to build this plant. Then, I suppose, for clear subjective factors, we begun to be pressed. You know these factors. They are in one bunch with what is going on in other directions”.

Then, the Russians suggested establishing some joint enterprise, which later will sell electric power, including the Belarusian one, to the West. “I say! We are taking a credit by you, and it is not a cheap one, we are going to give it back. What relation does it have to our property?!” — the ruler said.

In this connection, Alyaksandr Lukashenka emphasized again that Belarus will negotiate with other investors, despite the fact that the terms of realization of the project of the Belarusian nuclear power plant are delayed a little.
