Slovakia to limit contacts with Lukashenka’s Belarus

A prominent Slovakian politician Mikuláš Dzurinda, who has recently taken the lead of the Foreign Ministry, has announced the key objectives and principles of the foreign policy of his country.

As said by the Minister, the external policy of the country would be based upon the principles of openness and accountability to the society. The centre of the foreign political activities of Slovakia is to include such traditional European values as a right to life, personal freedom and respect of human dignity, Radio Svaboda informs.

For that reasons, in the nearest time Slovakia will limit contacts with the countries where harsh violations of human rights and personal freedoms take place. As an example, Mikuláš Dzurinda offered such countries as Belarus and Cuba.

“On the one hand, we assign high priority to economic interests, however on the other hand, we should not forget the fundamental principles and values,” stated the head of the Foreign Ministry of Slovakia.

Alongside with that Slovakia will support projects aimed at European integration and modernization of Ukraine.

While Mikuláš Dzurinda took the position of the Prime Minister (1998-2006) and the acting president (1998-1999), Slovakia became a member of the EU and the NATO.
