17

Iran received 4 missiles for Surface-to-air Missile Complex S-300, in spite of the refusal of Russia to deliver these systems within the contract frameworks.

It is reported by Associated Press with reference to Iranian agency FARS.

According to agency data, the Islamic Republic has bought from Belarus two missiles for SAM S-300, two more came from a third country, which is not named in the agency report.

Within the frameworks of Russian-Iranian contract, Russia is to deliver to Iran five batteries of SAM S-300 PMU-1 “Favorite” for the sum of 800 million USD, however, the execution of this contract is frozen. In 2009 Russia was not able to deliver the ordered complexes “for technical reasons”, and in June, 2010, U.N.O, USA and Israel introduced sanctions against Iran, that prohibited deliveries of high variety of armament, including missile systems, to this country.

West countries spoke against selling of Russian Surface-to-air Missile Complex to Teheran, as they were concerned with the fact, that strengthening of Anti-aircraft Defense may stimulate aggressive plans of this state.
