BNTU teacher fired for demonstration on Square

Andrei Vilkin, an associate professor of the physical training department, honoured coach of Belarus, head of Shotokan Karate Federation, has been fired from Belarusian National Technical University (BNTU) for taking part in a peaceful protest demonstration in Minsk on December 19.

As charter97.org learnt, the university administration made Andrei Vilkin to give a letter of agreement for mutual termination.

Andrei Vilkin was arrested on December 19 and served his 15-day arrest in a detention facility in Zhodzina. He marked his birthday there on December 31. His wife Svyatlana Vilkina, multiple world’s Shotokan Karate champion, was arrested as well and served her term in a detention facility in Akrestina Street.

The couple made invaluable contribution to development of Belarusian sport and promotion of the country in the world. As most of the people at the demonstration on December 19, they were not engaged in opposition activity, but just wanted to show their civil position and protest against lawlessness during the elections.

The university administration resorted to mean and low ways to take revenge on the respectful people for their honesty and adherence to principles.
