Poles want to ban Rockerjocker concert in Poznan

Representatives of the leading opposition party Law and Justice protest against a concert of Belarusian band Rockerjocker.

The band is expected to play a concert as part of Belarusian Culture Days in Poznan, Belorusski Partizan reports.

“This band sings in Russian. It gained popularity with their song 'Sasha will stay with us', which became the anthem of Lukashenka's campaign,” Law and Justice representative Szymon Szynkowski says.

The Belarusian Culture Days in Poznan will be held for the forth time in late October, gazeta.pl reports. Rockerjocker group was to play a concert as part of the programme. Local Law and Justice leaders are outraged over this fact.

The statement spread my the media reads: “The band is known in Belarus for their song 'Sanya will stay with us', which became the anthem of Alyaksandr Lukashenka's election campaign. The song was aired by all Belarusian radio stations up to 7 times a day some months before the presidential elections. All Belarusians heard the words 'Sanya will stay with us. Everything will be okay', while democratic candidates had only 30 minutes to talk on the radio.”

Law and Justice representatives remind that a concert of Rockerjocker already provoked a wave of protests in Lublin: “We doubt it is a wise and necessary decision to organize a concert of the band that is considered at least controversial by the Belarusian opposition.”
