Lukashenka’s assistant met the US deputy Secretary of State

Valiantsin Rybakou had a meeting with the US deputy Secretary of State Daniel Russell on 15 November in Washington.

“In the course of the meeting the issue of mutual interest were discussed”, - the MFA press-service’s statement says.

Belarusian authorities resumed contacts with representatives of the USA immediately after Uladzimir Makei’s appointment as the head of the Belarus’ MFA. On 17 November he received the US chargé d'affaires ad interim Ithon Goldrich following the request of the latter. The MFA then informed that in the framework of the exchange of opinions the parties discussed key issues of Belarusian-American relations.

At the end of October Ithon Goldrich asked for a meeting with the Belarus MFA’s leadership again.

According to the message of the Belarusian MFA, the deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Belarus Aliaksandr Guriyanau received the chargé d'affaires ad interim Ithon Goldrich at his request.

The European Union is also carrying out negotiations with official Minsk, which was announced yesterday by the head of the EU delegation to Belarus Maira Mora. Although the negotiations, according to her, proceed with difficulties, in Brussels they yet again hope that it will lead to release of political prisoners.

“The second round of the technical dialogue between Belarus and the European Union is expected next week in Brussels”, - Maira Mora stated.
