Lukashenka: Internet may provoke revolution

The Belarusian dictator admits the power of the Internet.

“Revolutions and social turmoil happened across the world with the help of the Internet. The Arab states, they were overturned completely. They are finishing Syria now and getting closer to Iran. It would not have happened without the Internet,” Lukashenka said Friday at a meeting with students and academic staff of the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics.

The head of state said the new information technologies are used everywhere, “from everyday life to space”. “I'd like them to be used for the benefit of the mankind,” he stressed.

Lukashenka said speaking about development of new information technologies and attracting foreign investment in the IT industry: “I don't like foreign investors to come here. They can take away all profits. I am more inclined to see our investors,” the dictator said.
