Journalists detained in Smalevichy

Siargei Vazniak, Mikalai Patrushenka and three more people were taken to a police department in Smalevichy.

A journalist Mikhail Yanchuk reported about that in his Facebook account.

“Vazniak, Patrushenka, Piashko, Burieva and their driver are detained in Smalevichy. They were not allowed to the meeting with a parliament member, checked their documents and now are being taken to the Smalevichy police department in Soviestskaya street”, - he says.

According to what Siargei Vazniak told BelaPAN, they did not manage to get to the meeting with the parliament member. “Ten minutes before it was going to start we were approached by policemen – lieutenant colonel Andrei Martysiuk and two district inspectors, who took our passports and suggested to follow them in order for our personalities to be identified”, - Vazniak told.

At the police department, the policemen questioned the journalists about the goals of their visit to Smalevichy. Also the policemen were interested in the journalists’ equipment and data carriers.

We would remind that a Belarusian-Chinese industrial park is being built in Smalevichy district. 8048 hectares of the land were provided for the development. The industrial park will represent a special economic zone with a special legal regime established for 50 years. The priority areas, supposed to be developed in the park, are electronics, biomedicine, chemistry and machine building.

The locals and summer residents actively protest against the building of the park. They are sure that the ecology of the neighborhood will inevitably suffer from such a large scale project, which provides for creating hundreds enterprises. Added to that ecologists claim that the industrial construction in Minsk’s recreation zone will seriously deteriorate the ecology of the megalopolis itself.
