An assassin from the “death squads” asks for a pardon

The former deputy commander of the military unit 3214 Andrei Vasilieu wrote a pea for pardon.

Andrei Vasilieu, sentenced for murders, is the cellmate of the political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich.

Recently the cellmate has written a plea for pardon to Aliaksandr Lukashenka. The imprisoned politician’s wife Maryna Adamovich found that out, Radio Racyja reports.

Andrei Vasilieu was sentenced to 21 years for a murder. He has already served 11 out of them. His name was among the people privy to the so-called “death squad”, which is suspected of kidnapping and murdering Belarusian opposition politicians. One of the former servicemen of the military unit told about that.

- Mikalai says that he, certainly, denies his belonging to the “death squad” and the murders. They have been cellmates since March. At the end of March he was transferred from the Navapolatsk colony to the prison and placed him immediately in the same cell with Mikalai. At first there were three of them. Then there remained them two. It happened after the first cellmate wrote an appeal for secure conditions.

After Vasilieu was put in the same cell with Statkevich, opinions appeared that it was done intentionally for putting psychological pressure on the politician. But, according to Maryna Adamovich, her husband did not make any remarks about his cellmate. “When there are two of you in a locked very tine space, you have to get along with cellmates if you want it or not”, - the politician’s wife says.
