Polish embassy sends protest note to Belarus

The Embassy of the Republic of Poland has sent a note of protest in connection with the plans to open Russian-language classes in a Polish school in Hrodna.

The news was spread by Polskie Radio with a link to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland.

The Ministry raises serious concerns about the plans to open two Russian-language classes in Polish school No. 36 in Hrodna.

The note says the agreement signed by the Belarusian authorities guarantees education in Polish at the school. The MFA stresses the construction of the school was fully funded by Poland.

Members of the Union of Poles of Belarus and parents of pupils of school No. 36 in Hrodna stand against Russian language at the Polish school. The petition was signed by 260 parents, the MFA informs.

The Union of Poles of Belarus notes opening Russian-language classes may become the first step to change school's working language. The Union of Poles says the Belarusian authorities try to force out education in Polish.
