Will policeman Halavin be arrested for dirty language?

An activist of the Young Front Pavel Syarhei is to challenge the actions of the deputy chief of the policing and prevention unit of the police department of Frunzenski district Andrei Halavin.

On May 24 finally returned personal things to the activist. He visited the police department to fetch them. In addition to his things, Pavel was given a generous helping of incident words and insults addressed to him. It was probably meant as “prevention”, “Viasna” human rights centre informs.

The matter is, after serving the five-day detention term in the remand prison in Akrestsin Street for alleged use of foul language, Pavel Syarhei was not given back his personal things. Officers of the prison told that his things were at the police department of Frunzenski district, where he was taken after arrest.

On May 22 Pavel went to take his belongings, but could not receive them. He was told that his things were kept in the personal strongbox of the deputy chief of the police department, Halavin. He was not at his working place at about 5 p.m. On the next day the activist repeated his attempt, he arrived there earlier, at 3 a.m., and the situation repeated. Pavel had to visit the police department once again, after 5 p.m., and finally was given his things ack. And instead of explanations why the things had been kept in the personal strongbox of the deputy police chief, and why he had to go there for a few days, the Young Front member had to listen to indecent insults from Halavin.

The situation is even more hurtful, as Pavel Syarhei would probably remember his day of coming of age (which was on May 23) not by cheerful wishes and congratulations from friends and family (his mobile phone was among the other things in Halavin’s strongbox), but by dirty curses by the policeman.
