Belarusians taking money from bank accounts

A number of big Belarusian banks report an outflow of ruble deposits in the last week of May.

Several banks confirmed this tendency to Interfax-Zapad news agency on a condition of anonymity.

“People rather actively withdrew Belarusian rubles from their deposits in the last week of May. In most cases, it was non-extension of earlier signed deposit agreements,” a bank representative said adding that May showed a growth in ruble deposits for individuals, although it considerably decreased. The source also noted the results of the month showed the part of capitalization was increasing in the rate of general deposit growth.

He states an almost proportional growth in fix-term foreign currency (mostly Russian ruble) deposits for individuals.
