Viktor Kornienko: now the authorities will get what they deserved

The reaction of the OSCE and the USA on the absence of the opposition on the OSCE meeting on human dimension in Vienna will force Belarusian authorities to think about the compliance to Human rights.

This was stated to BelaPAN by the coordinator of the campaign “For Fair Elections”, Viktor Kornienko.

“If the principal position of the USA on the refusal of my departure abroad could be predicted, I didn’t expect such harsh statements from the OSCE and the ODHIR OSCE. And this is very important for us, since now Europe is demonstrating its principal position. What concerns Belarusian authorities, now they’ve got what they deserve and not what they would like to get”, - said Kornienko.

According to his words, such reaction of the OSCE and the USA “will influence the situation with those who are not allowed to leave Belarus. It will influence the situation with Human Rights in general. The only question is – when”.  “Belarusian authorities are already starting to understand that international organizations and structures will not buy words and promises of

Belarusian officials anymore. It is clear even now that without certain steps on improving the situation with Human Rights, with the election rights, there will be no improvement in relation with Europe, the OSCE and the United States”, - noted Kornienko.

“Meanwhile, this step of the OSCE and the USA is also an answer to those structures which think that Europe should develop relations with the official Minsk despite everything. After all, European politicians do care about what their voters think about them, and nobody wants to be branded as ”the lobbyist of the dictatorship” or “the supporter of the Human Rights violations in Belarus”, - thinks the politician.

Recall, Viktor Kornienko: was officially invited to the meeting and was planning to depart to Vienna in the morning of July 12. But the frontier guards in the national airport put a stamp in the passport, prohibiting travels abroad. At the same time Lydia Yermoshina, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Belarus, headed to Vienna. The meeting on organization of democratic elections and election observation is taking place on 12-13 of July.
