Pope prays for Belarus

The head of the Catholic Church expressed his concern about the case of priest Lazar.

On Monday September 30, the Pope received in audience Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti, apostolic nuncio to Belarus. They spoke for 40 minutes and discussed life and prospects for Belarus, catholic.by reports.

The Pope turned special attention to the situation of the Catholic Church in Belarus and welcomed the progress in serving God for the sake of all people of Belarus and Belarusian culture.

He was informed by the nuncio about the situation of priest Uladzislau Lazar. The Pope expressed his concern and asked to keep him informed about developments.

Pope Francis assured all Belarusian catholics that he kept an eye on the delicate situation. He asked his representative in Belarus to send his greetings to all citizens of the country, promised to pray and expressed his respect and warm feelings for Belarusians.

Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti is expected to meet with a number of Vatican officials in the nearest days.
