Emanuelis Zingeris: EU will not encourage swindlers and freedom stranglers

No improvements are possible in Belarus until political prisoners are released and conditions for free elections are created.

This statement was made by Emanualis Zingeris, a deputy chairman of the Committee for European Affairs at the Lithuanian Seimas, ucpb.org reports. Head of the United Civil Committee Anatol Lyabedzka met with Zingeris.

Emanuelis Zingeris noted that “the Belarusian authorities recently increased their activity in the western direction. This was noticed in Lithuania. But it is impossible to speak about improvement in Belarus until political prisoners are released and conditions for free elections are created. We will not encourage swindlers and freedom stranglers.” Speaking about Belarusian MFA's scandalous report on human rights in 25 countries, including Lithuania, Zingeris said: “It makes me only smile. Belarusian officials should look in the mirror more often.”

Anatol Lyabedzka says: “Lithuania will take over the EU presidency in the middle of the year. This fact alone is worth attention and serious discussion. It is important for the United Civil Party to have a Belarusian issue on Vilnius's agenda. We talked about it in the committees of the Seimas. We also discussed holding inter-party Belarusian-Lithuanian consultations. It is an excellent opportunity both to share information and prepare a joint message to the people of our countries.”
