Picket for a new clinic forbidden in Salihorsk

The chief ideologist of Salihorsk’s town executive committee Mikalai Maskevich forbad the picket in support of the construction of a new town clinic.

An application for holding the picket was sent by Salihorsk civic activists to the local authorities on 8 February.

The picket for collecting the town residents’ signatures under an appeal to local and national authorities with a demand to build a new modern clinic in the town was planned to be arranged on 2 March near Salihorsk department store. A member of United Civic Party Viktar Malochka was the applicant for the event, the human rights center Viasna’s web-site reports.

In the application it was noted that during the parliamentary elections of 2012 signature collection in this place was allowed. However this argument did not persuade the deputy chairman of Salihorsk’s town executive council for ideological work. Mikalai Maskevich refused to allow the picket because the place for it did not correspond to the decision of Salihorsk’s town executive committee “On measures for preventing emergencies and legislation observance at mass events”.

According to the applicants, they are not going to appeal to the refusal.
