Anatol Labiedzka: It is impossible to speak of participating in elections in Belarus

Without a change of the rules of the game it is pre-emptive to speak of participating in elections.

This is how the leader of the United Civic Party Anatol Labiedzka commented for the charter97.org web-site on the initiative of the Movement for Freedom, Tell the Truth civic campaign and BPF party, which was announced today in Minsk.

“The United Civic Party welcomes the actions, aimed at consolidation and unification, because we hope that they will bring results. Whether there will be an effect of the declaration of the Movement for Freedom, Tell the Truth and BPF party, only time will show. It has just been declared.

Naturally, in Belarus one should speak not of participating in elections, but of political campaigns. There have not been elections in our country for almost 20 years already. Lukashenka will be able to “win” any elections and referendums with the rules of the game unchanged, like Hitler used to it in his time.

We repeatedly called on these organizations among others to put their efforts into changing these rules. And this can only be achieved when not 30-40, but 300-400 thousand people go out in the streets. We are ready to work with those, who set such a goal”, - Anatol Labiedzka said.

We would remind that today the Movement for Freedom, BPF party and Tell the Truth civic campaign announced the start of campaign People’s Referendum. The three organizations spoke of long-term strategic partnership at the press-conference. According to one of its participants Uladzimir Niaklaeu, the partnership is set for at least for the tree nearest electoral campaigns – municipal, presidential and parliamentary elections.
