Mirnyi reaches doubles last 16 in Beijing

Max Mirnyi of Belarus is off to a good start at the $5.4 million China Open in Beijing.

In the doubles opener Max Mirnyi paired with Spain's Feliciano Lopez outplayed an international tandem of Lukasz Kubot of Poland and Robert Lindstedt of Sweden 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-3).

Olga Govortsova and Chuang Chia-jung of China failed to reach the third round of the doubles losing to Shuai Peng of China and Andrea Hvalackova of the Czech Republic 3-6, 2-6. In the opener the Belarusian-Chinese duet saw off Marina Erakovic of New Zealand and Arantxa Parra Santonja of Spain 6-7, 6-3, 10-6.

In the singles the Belarusian failed to make it into the main draw in Beijing losing the first qualifying round to Monica Puig of Puerto Rico (World No.63) 6-2, 2-6, 2-6.

The competitions in the Chinese capital will complete on 5 October.
