Details of Su-25 crash: Attack plane dug several metres into ground

The pilot informed the base about the crash himself.

Now experts work at the scene of the ground attack jet’s crash. They have to find out what the reasons of the incident are. So far all possible versions are considered. Luckily, neither a pilot nor people on the ground were affected by the incident. The experienced pilot managed to prevent the tragedy. The aircraft fell on the edge of a wood. An emergency message about a crash of an attack plane near Lida was received at the noon. The Defense Ministry informed that a ground attack plane of the 116th Attack Air Base of the Military Air Forces and Air Defense Forces was performing a scheduled flight, ONT TV channel informed.

While the pilot was performing exercises, situation went out of control, but the pilot managed to take the 20-ton plane away from a settlement and ejected. The pilot himself informed about the crash to the base. From the air a search team noticed a canopy of parachute, a crater at the impact site, and smoke of the fire. All operative services arrived to the accident site.

Investigators told different versions of the crash are considered, but it is too early to make conclusions. That is why the official comments could be called laconic so far.

“The investigations committee has opened a criminal case relating Article 465 Part 1 of the Criminal Code – violation of the rules of flights and preparation to them. A group of investigators from the Main Investigations directorate, representatives of the Defense Ministry and the State Committee of the Court Expert Examinations Committee are working at the accident site,” informs the head of the Main Investigations directorate of the Investigations Committee Aleh Shandarovich.

Before sending the crashed aircraft remains for expert examination, they are to be extracted: the blow was so strong that the ground attack plane dug into the ground for a few metres.

Su-25 which is nicknamed Grach (“Rook”), is an all-weather armoured ground attack plane. It is aimed for support of ground troops at the battle field. This type of planes is used in many countries and is reliable and powerful as many conflicts have demonstrated.

It is known that the flight of Su-25 was a scheduled flight. An experienced pilot was in the plane. At the moment of the incident he was 20 kilometres away from the air base and 30 kilometres away from the training range. Now works at the accident site are continued.
