Excavations on site of execution of Jews in Valozhyn

Bones of the executed people are taken in an unknown direction.

Historian Ales Bely told it to charter97.org.

“Soldiers put bones into plastic bags. It seems to be a special search battalion. The works were ordered by the Valozhyn district enlistment office,” he writes. “I was told secretly that remains of clothes and personal items were also put in such bags and then burnt. If it is true, are they doing the right thing? The remains could have been used to identify the executed people! Do forensic specialists work there? What is the right procedure? Aren't prosecution agencies and other bodies supposed to be involved?”

The historian says local intellectuals are afraid of interfering after the death of activist Heorhy Karzhaneuski, who had organised protest pickets.

“No one is allowed to enter the stadium. They don't give any information. I don't know if the media published anything on the topic. Leaders of the Jewish communities arrive in Valozhyn tomorrow. I fear that much information about the killed people was lost. We live in the time of information technologies and it's strange to see the excavations to be carried out in a barbaric way without due coverage and public control,” he writes.
