Yarmoshyna not invited to monitor election in Ukraine

The Central Election Commission of Belarus will not take part in the monitoring of the early parliamentary election in Ukraine which is due to be held on October 26.

The statement was made by Mikalai Lazavik, a spokesman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), BelaPAN reports.

Ukraine did not invite the Belarusian CEC despite earlier promises, according to Lazavik.

The CEC spokesman explains it with changes in the procedure of inviting observers to elections in Ukraine. “Ukraine has taken a decision that states and international organisations willing to monitor elections should file applications,” Lazavik said.

He emphasised that Ukraine “did not invite anyone personally”, but noted that the central election commissions of Belarus and Ukraine “have friendly relations”.
