Hrodna doctors: They are probably deriding us

Health workers comment on the promised pay increase.

Since September 1, standard salaries of all health workers increased. A decree #819 of August 23 was published by the Council of Ministers. 015.by website has asked Hrodna doctors whether they are satisfied with the pay rise.

“I heard about the pay rise for health workers on Internet and TV,” Dzmitry, an ambulance attendant says. “They were really increased on September 1, by Br100,000 (about $10).”

“We learnt about the salary increase on the web. We thought, well at last we are going to receive more, but those who increased them, decided to deride us probably. Our salary was increased by Br300,000 only,” notes Tatsyana, a dentist in a city out-patient hospital.

“I heard about the upcoming increase,” Katya, an intern in a hospital said. “The standard salary was increased by 50% for us. Now my salary has increased by Br500,000 only. I am a young doctor and I understand that I cannot earn a lot, but I hoped that a pay rise would be higher. Today my salary is Br2.8 mln.”

“I work halftime as a surgeon in the Emergency Care Hospital. I work for 8 years. My salary was increased by Br 200,000. I would like to have Br200,000 more,” Ruslan says.

“I heard about the pay rise from our accountants. The rise was only Br500,000. Now I get 2.4 mln,” an intern in a city out-patient hospital, Nadzeja, notes. “If it could be increased by Br3 mln, so that I could rent a flat and make a living without problems, I would have stayed to work as a doctor. But as the situation is, I will finish my practical training period and quit medicine.”
