Drunken man shot dead by police in Orsha

It is the second person who has been shot dead by the police in the last week.

A drunken man was running about a block of flats and threatening people with a knife, a witness told charter97.org.

The incident took place in 17A Flyorov Street in the town of Orsha on October 2.

“A drunken man began to run up and down the block of flats and threaten with a knife after a quarrel with his girlfriend. The police were called. Police officers were persuading the man to drop the knife for 30 minutes, but it made him even angrier. He began to threaten everyone,” the reader said.

“People were said to not to open their doors or leave their flats. I saw in ten minutes that two police cars arrived. Police officers took shields. The operation lasted for 15 minutes. A police officer was wounded. The drunk man received a gunshot wound and died in 20 minutes,” the witness says.

An officer on duty at the Orsha police department didn't dare give comments to charter97.org. “This is operative information. Contact our press service on Monday,” he said.

Another incident took place in Minsk at Happiness shopping centre on October 1. An armed man took a foreign exchange cashier hostage. The police reported that he was “neutralised” after 3.5 hours. The man died in a hospital.
