Kolkhoz or jail

Kolkhoz or jail

There are two ways for a specialist with higher education in Belarus.

Natallia Darashkevich, the graduate of MSLU (Minsk State Linguistic University), writes on this issue on her “Facebook” account.

“There are only two ways for specialists with higher education in Belarus: kolkhoz or jail. Today I’ve visited the employment service to register unemployment as I’ve no leap of faith to find a job on my own in Asipovichy. They looked through my documents: diploma of higher education of MSLU, French Language Department, job experience: wed-administrator, interpreter in French company in Minsk. After it I have been told: we have no job offers for you. As you are unemployed you should go for a public work. That means you will work in kolkhoz for 150 thousand of Belarusian rubles per month (actually, I haven’t been told about what I should do: do milking or take out the manure). That is the decision to make what is better: to be imprisoned (at least I have a bed and ration 3 times a day) or working in kolkhoz for 150 thousand of Belarusian rubles (how can I survive for this money during a month?). This is a Belarusian way of life: graduates have only two ways: jail or kolkhoz. I have made my decision: it is a jail”, she writes.
