Bykhau official gets 4 years in jail

A former deputy chairman of the Bykhau district executive committee received four years in a medium security correctional facility.

BelTA learnt it from the press service of the Supreme Court.

“The court of the Chavusy district delivered a verdict in the criminal case against former chairman of the Bykhau district executive committee under part 3 of article 426 of the Criminal Code of Belarus. Defendant Skaluba was found guilty of intentional abuse of power that inflicted significant harm to people's rights and interests as well as to state and public interests committed out of personal interests by an official,” the press service says.

The court sentenced the man to five years in a medium security correctional facility and confiscation of property and deprived him of the right to hold any posts as a public officer for five years.

The term for Skaluba was reduced by one year on the ground of article 7, part 1, paragraph 3 of the law “On amnesty on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Belarus’s liberation of German Nazi occupants”.

The court decision took force and can be appealed against in accordance with the law.
