US Defense Department considers military assistance to Ukraine

The Pentagon continues to analyze Ukrane' needs for military aid.

Department of Defense's Rear Admiral John Kirby said it on Tuesday, Ukrinform reports.

“We continue to evaluate all Ukrainian requests for military aid and assistance but right now the focus remains on nonlethal,” he said.

He gave to understand that Washington's official position on not providing lethal defense weapons to Ukraine remained unchanged, but other variants are not ruled out.

Representatives of the US government earlier made statements on the issue. Tony Blinken, a deputy national security advisor to the US president, said in the Congress last Wednesday that the US was ready to discuss sending “defensive lethal equipment” to Ukraine.

He said the issue still remained on the table. “It's something that we're looking at, and, indeed, the vice president will be in Ukraine in the next few days, and I'm sure that will be a topic of discussion,” he noted.
