Insurgents abandon positions due to cold weather

The self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic have recorded several cases of desertion and unauthorized retreat of the units from the front line.

The head of the Information Resistance news Web site Dmytro Tymchuk reported on his Facebook page on Thursday.

"In particular, the most widespread unauthorized abandonment of the positions was recorded in the groups of insurgents who were fighting in the regions of Donetsk, Horlivka, Telmanove and Novoazovsk," the report reads.

He said the militants were abandoning their posts due to the recent spell of cold weather that has hit Ukraine. Temperatures have dipped well below freezing and snow has fallen all over the country this week.

According to Tymchuk, the leadership of the DPR is taking measures to tackle the situation by threatening militant fighters with severe punishments for abandoning their positions.
