Russia doesn't allow bringing 360 tonnes of vegetables from Belarus

Rosselkhoznadzor phytosanitary service returned more than 360 tonnes of vegetables to Belarus.

It is said by service's departments of the Bryansk and Smolensk Oblasts, RIA Novosti reports.

Rosselkhoznadzor's decision of November 24 allows the transit of products through Russia to third countries, including Kazakhstan, only through checkpoints on the state border. The agency had to make this step due to an increased number of violations relating to the illegal import of European fruit and vegetables to Russia.

Despite the restrictions, several attempts of bringing banned EU products to Russia from Belarus have been detected.

“From November 24 to November 27, inspectors of Rosselkhoznadzor's departments of the Bryansk and Smolensk Oblasts banned the transit of 17 lots of Polish and Greek quarantined products weighting more than 360 tonnes meant for Kazakhstan at advance notification points Krasnaya Gorka, Kruglovka and Krasny Kamen,” Rosselkhoznadzor says.

The cargo was returned to the sender, because the above mentioned advance notification points are not considered to be border crossing checkpoints.

Russia imposed a year's ban on the import of a number of products from the countries that introduced sanctions against Moscow – the US, the EU states, Canada, Australia and Norway. The blacklist includes beef, pork, poultry, seafood, fruits, vegetables, cheese and dairy products.
