EU to discuss imposing new sanctions against Russia

Members of the European Union are to discuss the issue of new sanctions against Russia this week.

The European Union is checking the reports that Russian military forces have moved into the territory of Ukraine after the election in the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s republics.

It was stated on Monday at the briefing in Brussels by Maja Kocijancic, spokesperson for EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, “Ukrainskaya Pravda” reports.

The EU has seen these reports. At present the services of the EU are trying to get more detailed information and check what is going on in reality, the spokesperson said answering a question.

To the question whether the new pseudo-elections of the “DNR” and “LNR” are the development of the situation which could make the EU reconsider the EU sanctions against Russia, Maja Kocijancic noted that the restrictive measures are being revised all the time, and until that moment they are continued to be revised.

She added that “the member countries are to discuss it later within a week.”

Maja Kocijancic made a reference to the statement of the head of the European diplomacy Federica Mogherini as of November 2, where she stressed: “These 'elections' were held contrary to the letter and the spirit of the Minsk Protocol”, also “obstruct efforts to find a sustainable political solution to the crisis” in Ukraine.
