Selling drugs to be punished with 25 years in prison

The draft anti-drug decree proposes to imprison people for 25 years for selling illegal drugs.

Chairman of the Supreme Court Valiantsin Sukala attended the opening of a new building of the district court in Valozhyn, BelTA reports.

He said: “The decisions that were taken at a meeting with the head of state to discuss efforts against drug trafficking are being implemented in practice. The final draft decree that includes most of the things discussed at the meeting has been prepared.”

In particular, the draft decree proposes stricter punishment for selling drugs. “It will hit drug dealers and those who sell and produce the so called designer drugs. If aggravating circumstances exist, the punishment may be up to 25 years in prison. We will open special medium security medical facilities for drug addicts. The decree offers a number of new measures tightening responsibility for selling and using illegal drugs,” the Supreme Court chairman said.

According to Valiantsin Sukala, the anti-drug decree can be signed by the end of the year.
