Eduard Lobau: Belarus may be next after Crimea

International community must stop Russia’s aggression.

A political prisoner Eduard Lobau sent a letter to relatives, in which he expressed his attitude on the events in Ukraine and how they may end for Belarus. His mother Maryna Lobava spoke about that in an interview with Radio Svaboda.

“He is indignant that Russia took the Crimea away from Ukraine. He writes that Russia’s way to seize territories have not changed in centuries, different governments act alike, and that the international community should react tougher to that, and stop Russia, because Belarus may be next after Ukraine, or other former USSR countries. Son believes that such things cannot be left unpunished. He worries that Russia might keep dividing Ukraine further”, - she says.

About himself Eduard said that he felt well. He keeps studying to be a gas welder in the penal colony in Ivacevichy. Maryna Lobava said that the studies are supposed to end in June.

Eduard Lobau is serving a 4 year imprisonment term on charges of hooliganism, allegedly committed a day before presidential elections of 19 December 2010. The political prisoner, human rights activists and international community believe that a provocation of special services was arranged against him.
