Catherine Ashton: EU remains committed to Ukraine's territorial integrity

The EU High Representative noted the talks in Geneva were frank, but constructive.

The European Union will continue to support efforts to stabilise the situation in Ukraine economically, financially and politically.

EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said it to journalists after a meeting of Ukraine, the US, the EU and Russia in Geneva, UNN news agency reports.

“We remain committed to the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. In the meantime, the European Union will continue to support efforts to stabilize the situation in Ukraine economically, financially and politically,” she said.

Ashton noted there were “frank but constructive discussions that are looking to find the concrete steps -- real, practical things -- that can de-escalate the tensions in Ukraine”.

The talks on Ukraine were held in Geneva. The parties agreed to take steps to de-escalate the situation in the country and adopted the so called Geneva statement.
