US Senate: Next step – sanctions on Gazprom and major banks

Sanctions on Russia will extend shortly.

The energy enterprise Gazprom is supposed to go under the USA restrictive measures, unless Vladimir Putin starts withdrawing his troops from Ukrainian borders. The suggestion was introduced by representatives of the Senate’s Committee on International Affairs in the US Congress as they spoke on NBC, UNN reports.

“Unless Russia starts pulling troops away from Ukrainian border, the USA will have to impose sanctions on Russian energy enterprises like Gazprom”, - a Republican Bob Corker said. He also pointed out that it is necessary to “strike at major banks” in order to prove to Putin that the States are ready for such a step. This idea was supported by the senators-democrats too, having added that USA’s sanctions on Russia must be extended.

Last week they reported in Washington that the president Barak Obama was considering the possibility of introducing sanctions on Russia in the banking area, energetics and mining industry. Yesterday American media wrote that the administration of the US president would put all effort into isolating Russia.

Barak Obama has lost hope for cooperation with the Russian president and writes him off in the intention to deal with other problems, to which solutions can be found, in his remaining two and a half years in office, The New York Times reports.
