State Border Committee: New checkpoints at Ukrainian border

The State Border Committee has clarified reports by charter97.org.

“We view the information about placing some checkpoints at the Belarusian-Ukrainian border, especially new ones, as whipping up tensions, and we urge mass media to verify information received from eyewitnesses,” said the spokesperson of the State Border Committee Alyaksandr Tishchanka.

In this way he commented the reports of a number of mass media about limiting entry to the territory of Ukraine through crossing points on the state border.

“Today on April 22, 2014 I tried to get to the village of Paddabryanka (Poddobryanka), where the checkpoint with facilitated procedure of border crossing is situated. A roadblock has been put up 7 kilometres from this village, near the village of Grabouka. Documents are checked and cars with no fee for driving across border area paid, are not allowed to pass,” one of our site visitors wrote.

In his turn, Tishchanka attracted attention to the fact that “a roadblock is a military re-enforced structure with machine-gun nests, and what website visitors saw is called an inspection station.” As said by the representative of the SBC, “it is a usual standard situation when patrols check abidance by the rules of entry into the border area”.
