Political prisoner Parfiankou held in solitary confinement

Authorities of correctional facility No. 9 in Horki continues to press on Vasil Parfiankou.

Charter97.org has learnt it from activist and film director Volha Mikalaichyk.

“I finally received a letter from Vasil. He was thrown into the punishment cell in early May, so he couldn't write. He writes he received the icons I had sent him. He says he now feels happier. He is held in solitary confinement. He sometimes walks in the yard with the concrete fence,” she noted.

The activist stresses that political prisoner Parfiankou is thrown into the punishment cell on far-fetched grounds every month. He already spent there more than 50 days.

“I don't understand why they send him to the punishment cell. He is held in solitary confinement. He cannot quarrel with anybody. He does physical exercises, prays and reads. It helps him withstand the pressure from the prison staff. He asks to write him more. Letters cheer him up,” Volha Mikalaichyk added.

On December 5, 2013, Minsk's Pershamaiski district court sentenced Vasil Parfiankou to a year in a correctional facility for “violating the rules of preventive supervision”.

Parfiankou was sentenced to 4 years of imprisonment in 2011 for participating in a rally on December 19, 2010. He was amnestied some months later. In early 2012, he was put under preventive supervision after several arrests for pickets of solidarity with political prisoners.
