Explosion at heat and power station under construction in Luninets (Photo)

A powerful explosion took place at around 17:00.

One person is reported to be killed, Media-Polesye says.

The explosion is said to have taken place in the electric filter, but there's no precise information. Specialists are working to establish the reason. A worker near the filter died at the scene. Two injured men were taken to hospital in Luninets.

The explosion blew out windows in the power station and nearby buildings. Rescuers, the police, officers of the Investigation Committee and other agencies are working at the scene.

The official opening of the combined heat and power station running on local fuels was scheduled for September. A series of tests was performed at the station when the accident happened.

The construction of the combined heat and power station began in March 2012. According to specialists, 70% of the plant's equipment are made in Belarus, but the turbine is German.
