Yatseniuk: Russia plans on stopping gas transit through Ukraine in winter

The Russian Federation plans on cutting off natural gas through the territory of Ukraine into the European Union countries.

This was announced today by Ukraine’s Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

“The situation in energetics is complicated. We know of Russia’s plans to cut off the transit (of gas) even to the European Union member states, - Yatseniuk said. – Precisely for that companies have been instructed to maximize the volumes, stored in repositories in the territory of Europe. We know of Russia’s plans to actually cut Ukraine off all energy resources”.

He pointed out that Ukraine has stored 15 billion cubic meters of gas in its underground vaults.

We would remind that starting from 16 June, when the Russian gas monopolist Gazprom stopped pumping gas for Ukrainian consumers, the volume of Russian gas, transited to Europe, amounted to 185 million cubic meters per day.
