Staff of Centralny supermarket: Wages reduced by 15-25%

Every employee earns 1 million rubles less.

It was reported on September 9 that staff of Centralny supermarket in the centre of Minsk planned a strike on September 10, Nasha Niva reports.

Staff members are not happy with their wages that reduced after the owner of the supermarket changed. There have been rumours in the last few weeks that a casino and a restaurant will be opened instead of the supermarket. What is true and what is not?

Angry employees met with a representative of the new owner at 8:30 today. It turned out the strike was not a serious threat. The supermarket opened at 9:00 as usual.

The new owner representative agreed to speak to journalists after the meeting. He refused to say his and the owner's names, but denied information from the Internet that the company bears relation to Secret shopping centre in Homel.

The staff say their wages fell 15-25% in recent months. An average employee began to earn 1 million rubles less.

The representative of the owner explains it with a seasonal decline in incomes – the supermarket does not attract many customers in July and August. Earlier, the staff received a fixed bonus regardless of the volume and quality of their work. Now the company introduced the system of individual bonuses.

The question of excess staff was raised. Centralny supermarket has more than 500 employees. Managers hint those who don't like the new system may quit. As of now, only three employees gave in notices.

Centralny supermarket will see changes, but they won't be radical. For example, the trading space will be enlarged and the lighting will be changed.

The representative of the new owner denied information about opening a casino and a restaurant instead of the supermarket.

The new owner plans to get rid of drunken customers at the bar on the ground floor, the legendary place in Minsk. The appearance and smell of such customers distract others from Centralny supermarket.

The new owner's representative proposed two possible ways to solve the problem. Prices at the bar can be raised to sift unwanted customers, or alcohol will be sold only in the retail space that would allow customers to drink alcohol only outside the supermarket.

Rublevsky chain showed interest in Centralny supermarket some years ago. Will the new owner join one of the retail chains? It remains a commercial secret.
