Yury Rubtsou to be tried for “insult” of judge

The date of the proceedings in the criminal case opened for “insult” of a judge by a Homel-based public activist Yury Rubtsou has been set.

The trial is to start on September 16 at 3 p.m. in the court of Tsentralny district of Minsk, with Judge Natallya Vajtsekhovich. The case is to be considered in the court of Tsentralny district, as the aggrieved person, Judge Kiryl Polulech, works in the court of Savetski district, Viasna human rights centre informs.

On April 28 in the court of Savetski district of Minsk the administrative case of Yury Rubtsou was tried. He was detained at the rally “Way of Chernobyl” (“Charnobylski Shlyakh”), authorized by the authorities. Kiryl Polulech was the judge. During the trial Yury Rubtsou filed complaints and comments to the court records. However, the court ignored them. Moreover, Kiryl Polulech viewed the words of Rubtsou as an insult.

On August 5 Yury Rubtsou was interrogated in the department of Savetski district of the Investigative Committee of Minsk as a suspect in the framework of the criminal case on charges relating Article 391 “Insult of a judge or a people's assessor”. The penalty for insulting a judge, related to administering justice by him, envisages different sanctions, a fine, corrective labour for up to two years, an arrest from three to six months, or restriction of freedom for up to three years.
