Zhirinovsky, Rosneft and Transneft hit by EU sanctions

The European Union has published a new list of sanctions against Russia.

The European Union fulfilled its promise and published new sanctions against Russia. The sanctions have taken force on the date of the publication. The EU's 28 member states agreed on Thursday to impose additional sanctions on Russia on September 12, NEWSru.com writes.

The new list of sanctions targets Rosneft, Transneft, Gazprom Neft, the Official Journal of the EU says. The EU also barred issuing loans to Russia's three largest defense plants – Uralvagonzavod, aerospace company Oboronprom and United Aircraft Corp (UAC).

The list of banks with limited access to debt markets and investments remains unchanged since July 31. The list contains Sberbank, VTB, Gazprombank, VEB and Rosselkhozbank. The sanctions bans credits and loans with a maturity of over 30 days for the targeted entities. EU residents are prohibited from issuing loans to them.

“DNR” leaders and members of Russia's State Duma were included in the list.

The updated blacklist includes 24 new names, among them general director of Rostec corporation Sergey Chemezov; prime minister of the self-declared Donetsk People's Republic Aleksandr Zakharchenko; LDPR leader and Duma member Vladimir Zhirinovsky; Duma's deputy speakers Vladimir Vasilyev, Ivan Melnikov, Igor Lebedev and Nikolai Levichev. The list of sanctions against individuals was extended to 119 names.

Besides Zakharchenko, the sanctions hit other leaders of separatists: minister of defense of “DNR” Vladimir Kononov; leader of the so called “Donbas People's Militia” Miroslav Rudenko; prime minister of “LNR” Gennadiy Tseypkalov; state security minister of “DNR” Andrey Pinchuk; interior minister of “DNR” Oleg Bereza; official representative of “DNR” to Russia Andrey Rodkin; minister of foreign affairs of “DNR” Aleksandr Karaman.

The sanctions target the following Russian officials: plenipotentiary representative of Crime to the Russian president Georgiy Muradov; deputy prime minister of the Crimean Republic Mikhail Sheremet; deputy speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Yuri Vorobiov; chairman of the Union of the Russian and Foreign Cossack Forces, and member of the State Duma Viktor Vodolatsky; first deputy chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the State Duma Leonid Kalashnikov; members of the State Duma Vladimir Nikitin, Oleg Lebedev, Svetlana Zhukova and Aleksandr Babakov.

The blacklist also includes Major-General Aleksey Naumets, the commander of the 76th airborne division. Soldiers of the division were reported by the media to be involved in combat action in Ukraine on the side of separatists.
