Tributes paid to Piotr Martsau

About 100 people came to pay their last respect to journalist and publisher Piotr Martsau.

Journalists, also from closed newspapers BDG and Imia, politicians, activists and intellectuals came to the funeral home. White-red-white colours stood out from wreaths and bouquets, Radio Svaboda reports.

Martsau's relatives asked not to take photos and videos and make speeches. A part of mourners sang the religious hymn Almighty God and some applauded (a tradition at the funeral of creative figures) as the coffin was taken out of the funeral home.

The ashes of Piotr Martsau will be buried at the Paunouchnya Cemetery.

Piotr Martsau, a publisher of independent press, died of acute leukemia at the age of 53.
