Huge portraits of abducted politicians in centre of Brest

Activists reminded Brest residents about the disappeared leaders of opposition.

Their portraits and a big board with information about the kidnapped people were installed near the entrance to Brest State Pedagogical University, charter97.org learnt.

“The physical elimination of political opponents stopped after a negative reaction both in the country and in the world,” organisers of the picket said. “No one believed it was just a coincidence. People think Lukashenka is directly involved in the death of Karpenka and the kidnapping of Zakharanka, Hanchar and Krasouski. Thousands of people organised pickets with portraits of the disappeared people. It stopped murders.

15 years have passed. The authorities, which earlier organised the murders, now want to close the criminal case as the statute of limitation expires. They want us to forget... But we remember and won't allow them to forget.”

Politician Viktar Hanchar and businessman Anatol Krasouski were abducted 15 years ago.
