“Justice” in Belarus: Home search for “swearing”

Uladzimir Lemesh was fined, and KGB officers searched his home.

Uladzirmir Lemesh, an activist of the European Belarus civil campaign, was tried in Salihorsk. The opposition member was charged with violating article 17.1 of the Code of Administrative Offences (disorderly conduct).

Charter97.org learnt it from the campaign's human rights service.

Police officers said the activist was “swearing in the street loudly”. Judge Samoilik issued a fine of two penalty units to Lemesh.

The activist was again detained by KGB officers after the trial. They took him home and searched the flat. Copies of signature sheets for Sannikov for the 2010 election, a book by Ales Bialiatski and a white-red-white flag were seized.

Activist of the European Belarus civil campaign Uladzimir Lemesh was detained on September 27 near his home in Salihorsk.

The young man was detained by plainclothes policemen. He spent two days in custody.
