Mother of Hrodna reservist: Son summoned to military enlistment office for talk, and not allowed to go

Parents had to urgently prepare personal hygiene items and clothes for their son.

An extraordinary active calling up of reservists for military training has started in Belarus. Reservist training is not carried out in Minsk yet, but they are more than active in the provinces. For example, it is known that 140 reservists have been called up by the military enlistment service of Vaukavysk (Volkovyssk). The new edition of “Belorusskaya voennaya gazeta” (The Belarusian military newspaper) has informed that “a new stage of practical efforts for mobilization and raising the number of personnel in some units to wartime strength has started as a part of intensive military training” in Hrodna and Hrodna region. Several dozens of dwellers of the capital of the district and of the region have received draft notices from the military enlistment office the day before.

People are warned at military enlistment offices that those who had not been called up at present, could be summoned by a phone call within the next two months. As “Grodno blog” (Hrodna’s Blog) website was told by a mother of one of reservists, her son was summoned to a military enlistment office just for a conversation, and after that he was not allowed to go. His parents had to collect personal hygiene items and clothes for him urgently.

The leading military newspaper of the country writes that the reservists’ preliminary assembly point was placed in one of the educational institutions of Hrodna.

And a colleague of Gazeta.ru reporter from Mozyr told:

“I was on a business trip for two days, and when I returned back, I was told in my office that they had received 5 phone calls from the military enlistment office. They demanded my presence at reserve training, and they said mobilization of reservists is carried out throughout the country. I do not want to go. Apparently, I would have to leave for some time, to go to Vilnius.”

“There have been no summons, I was invited to the military enlistment office by a phone call. They have a right for that under the law. After being registered, when everyone arrived, we left Vaukavysk and went to the regional assembly point in Hrodna. But we were told from the start that the training is to be held at a base near Brest,” another reservist said.

Earlier charter97.org published a letter of one of the viewers: “I live in Vaukavysk. A friend of mine has been called up for training this morning,” he said. “He received a conscription notice at work yesterday. He was said that he should go to the enlistment office for a lecture. He came to the enlistment office. He and other guys (four buses) were taken to a military base to have training for up to 35 days. He is at the base now. I'd like to add that my friend has a child under three years old. According to him, some of the reservists have small children and one has a disabled child.”

Readers from Brest report: “Many reservists in Brest receive draft notices obliging them to appear for special training. Men receive draft notices at work or at home. They must visit the conscription centre at Brest State University. Besides, all guys who have any exemptions are also called up. They pay special attention to those studying abroad.”

Major General Aleh Belakoneu, first deputy minister of defence of Belarus and the chief of the General Staff, told journalists that redeployment of air forces and air defence troops and strengthened border control would be trained. The exercises will also include tactical and firing drills.
